Day 1
AM - Flight to Philadelphia
Arrive at airport in plenty of time to catch your flight to Philadelphia.
PM - Arrival
Once you have arrived in Philadelphia a transfer will take you to your accommodation where you can drop off you bags before heading into the city to enjoy your first evening, and grab some food.
Day 2
AM - Independence National Historic Park
After breakfast at you accommodation it is time to head to the Independence National Historic Park for a walking tour. Philadelphia is best seen by foot, And the tour is a great way for a history study trip to explore America's Birthplace. It provides a primary overview of the Independence National Historical Park area and visits more than 20 of the most historic sites.
PM - National Constitution Center
In the afternoon a visit to The National Constitution Center which serves as America's leading platform for constitutional education and debate. The Center is the first and only museum dedicated to the U.S. Constitution. Through interactive exhibits, rare artefacts, and live theater, we bring the Constitution to life for visitors of all ages, surely perfect for your history study trip.
Philadelphia is a city of neighbourhoods—and spot-on neighbourhood dining. Within view of City Hall, Midtown Village’s chic 13th Street is home to Mexican, Spanish, Mediterranean, Japanese and all-American bistros. Ideal for your evening meal.
Day 3
AM - Hop on Hop off Bus
Discover by Sightseeing Hop on Hop off bus the city where America’s Founding Fathers first declared independence and ratified the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of historic landmarks including the Christ Church Burial Grounds, Elfreth’s Alley, the Betsy Ross House, and Independence Hall.
PM - Reading Terminal Market & Fort Miffin
In the afternoon, spend some time shopping at Reading Terminal Market, a famous indoor farmer's market offering diverse fare, housewares & area specialties since 1893. A dazzling tourist destination and a trusted source for fresh produce, seafood, meats and cheese for locals. It’s a great place for a lunch stop.
Take time to wander Fort Mifflin the oldest active military facility in the nation and America’s only operating base predating the Declaration of Independence. The fort saw its heaviest action in 1777 during the Revolutionary War.
Day 4
AM - Travel to Washington & Gettysburg Civil War Battlefield site
After breakfast you’ll depart to Washington DC via coach, making a stop at the Gettysburg Civil War Battlefield site. Where you can walk in the footsteps of soldiers who fought at such iconic places as Culp's Hill, The Peach Orchard, Wheatfield, Devil's Den, Little Round Top, and Cemetery Ridge.
PM - Monuments of the Mall & The White House
Upon arriving in Washington you can drop your bags off at you accommodation before heading out to the Monuments of the Mall and get your pictures in front of the White House. Enjoy your evening meal at Union Station, a superbly restored, historic shopping and entertainment venue located just blocks from the U.S. Capitol Building.
Day 5
AM - Capitol Hill
Start your time in Washington DC with a visit to Capitol Hill, Capitol building and Visitor Centre, Supreme Court and Library of Congress, plus the National Archive.
Before your transfer to the airport visit Washington Monument, Smithsonian Museum or Arlington Cemetery.
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex. You might want more than a couple of hours there. All our itineraries are bespoke and we can amend our itineraries to suit your study group trip.
PM - Return to the UK
Head back to the airport in good time for your return flight back to the UK
