Your travel itinerary could look like...
Day 1
PM - Arrival
You will be greeted at the airport upon arrival by a local and friendly tour guide. From there you will transfer to your accommodation for the evening, and head out for a meal at a local restaurant.
Day 2
AM - Orang Utan conservation centre
After you have had breakfast in your accommodation transfer for a visit to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre to learn about Orang Utan conservation. You have a short Orang Utan presentation to understand the local effort of wildlife conservation in Borneo. Then you will start the Orang Utan feeding time and visit an Orang Utan nursery. This is followed by a visit to Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about the smallest bear in the world which also in endangered conditions.
PM - Sunset river cruise
Spend the afternoon transferring to Kinabatangan Riverside. Then you join a 2-hour sunset river cruise to spot wildlife (including Orang Utan, Probocis Monkey, Hornbill Bird, etc.). Different animals will go out for food at different timing so get your chance to observe them while they are out.
Day 3
AM - Lake restoration project
Day 3 of your trip starts with an early get up to be able to observe the animals in their natural habitat. This also helps you gain a better understanding for the purpose of your project, and how you can benefit the local wildlife.
After a morning briefing you will head out on to the river to help clean it up using nets and scoops to collect waste along the river. You can also remove invasive animals that upset the local eco-system and food chain.
PM - River cruise
In the evening, when it is slightly cooler, you can enjoy a cruise down the river to spot wildlife. Depending on the weather, you will spot all sorts of animals that call the area their home.
Day 4
AM - Tree planting
Another day to be up and at them, not only to see the local wildlife, but to beat the sun. This morning, instead of cleaning the river you will take a morning cruise with a tree planting project along the side of the river and local villages. This project is to regrowth the forest along Kinabatangan Riverside which is an important resting area for wildlife including Orang Utan.
PM - River cruise
After a busy mornings work, and an afternoon rest to recover, hop back aboard the boat to embark on another sunset cruise. Try and spot some wildlife you didn't the day before, as some animals come out at different times of the day.
Day 5
AM - NGO talk
Transfer to Sukau Village where you will have a sit down talk with a n NGO team working in the area. Get an introduction to the NGO and a background of the work that they have been doing. Feel free to ask as many questions as you may have.
PM - Bridge building
In the afternoon you can help start building a rope bridge connecting the riverbanks, to help Orang Utan's and other local animals cross the river. You will receive help from the local fire department on this project.
Day 6
AM - Orang Utan Observation Site
Spend your final full day in Malaysia at an Orang Utan study site. Here you will follow a researcher or person in charge around the site, and follow the routine of a researcher until the day ends. Your full day in close proximity will help you further understand the local efforts to save their wildlife.
PM - Dinner
Say farewell with a group meal to end your trip
Day 7
AM - Departure
After breakfast you will have some free time until you transfer picks you up to take you back to the airport to begin your journey back to the UK.
